Surfer Girl Who Suffered A Shark Attack Is Still Hitting The Waves With Baby On Board

Ever seen someone ride a surfboard when they have a baby on board? Me neither. And she’s still so much better than me… *sob*.

Meet Bethany Hamilton, the woman is simply unstoppable.

When she was a 13-year-old surfing prodigy, the unexpected happened to Bethany while hitting some waves in Hawaii. She was attacked by a shark.

The vicious attack in 2003 mangled her arm and led to its amputation. Not only did the fearless girl get back in the water, she still thrives today as a star surfer – even winning 1st place in a women’s pro tournament in 2014!

The 25-year-old surfing star, who turned pro after losing her arm in a shark attack in, was spotted catching some major waves on the beach in Kauai, Hawaii, six months into her pregnancy.

The baby-bump-baring athlete was reportedly alone on the beach but happy to hang loose with fellow surfers.

Hamilton and her hubby Adam Dirks announced their baby boy in a video last month recorded in their Hawaii home.

“We have a little surprise for you… baby on board!” Hamilton said in the clip, which she shot on her birthday.

She said in her video last month that the pregnancy won’t keep her out of the water.

“I’ve been surfing throughout my whole pregnancy. I plan to surf as long as I can,” she said. “Once the belly’s pretty big, maybe (I’ll) just mellow it out and spend more time swimming and enjoying the ocean.”

One thing she’ll slow down on, though, is Surfs Like a Girl, an in-the-works film about her amazing journey to surf superstardom.

“I’m really excited to continue doing it once I’m all recovered from giving birth and figuring out how to be a mum,” she said in the clip. “But for now I’m just excited to be a mom and take on this adventure first.”

It also looks like she’s not alone in her love of the ocean, because her husband Adam Dirks is right by her side.

She told FitBump that she keeps fit with exercise that is “specifically geared toward birth.”

“I’m doing some Bradley Method movements. Lots of squatting. I’ll make excuses to squat down for something or just hang out in a squat. I’ve been intentionally sitting on a yoga ball while at home instead of a chair as much as possible, and squeeze my booty while sitting. Or I’ll squeeze the yoga ball in between my legs and pulse or hold. Simple, but great stuff.”

And soon, there will be a third surf lover in the family. On February 24, Hamilton shared an “ultrasound” of her baby on Instagram:

Hamilton’s memoir, Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family and Fighting to Get Back on the Board, was adapted into the 2011 film Soul Surfer. It’s well worth a watch.

Her attitude to life is so refreshing and great to see. Despite considerable adversity, she has always jumped back up on the board. Fair play.
