Photographer Quits His Job To Live In This Insane Treehouse
For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to build a treehouse. I used to annoy my dad asking if we could build one in the apple tree in our back garden. But no cigar. I let the dream die through my teen years when chasing girls and a different kind of wood occupied my time. Foolishly, I felt too old for a tree house. Then I saw what photographer Foster Huntington just built for himself…
Foster Huntington is the photographer and blogger behind two insanely cool projects. The Burning House asked people which of their possessions they’d rescue if their home burned down. His following project, Van Life, showcased three years he spent on the road in his van in a gorgeous photo book.
After all that travelling up and down The States in a van; it was time to settle down. But he didn’t go the standard mortgage two up, two down route, he went in hard.
The treehouse was constructed in a valley near the Columbia River Gorge in Skamania Washington, just outside of Portland, Oregon. Not only does the design blend seamlessly with the surrounding woodland, with bridges linking multiple platforms, the treehouse also comes complete with a skate bowl and hot tub!
The wooden cabins have views to die for, and are connected by a narrow footbridge. Foster lives in one of the cabins, while the other functions as a guesthouse.
Foster, who quit his city job in 2011, explained his decision for settling down in an interview with Mpora: “I’ve been travelling for the last three years and I wanted to set up a home base.”
“I really liked living in a small space, like in my camper, and a treehouse kind of seemed like a good evolution to it.”
“People have these notions that you have to move into the city but you really don’t. I have Wi-Fi here and full 4G internet. And that’s all I need to make a living.”
He got the incredible build over the line thanks to a little help from his friends.
Not a bad view to wake up to each morning.
All it takes to build your own treehouse paradise is a couple of friends, a cracking view and a fair bit of cash. *Adds to bucket list*.
