Couple who met on Blind Date 22 years ago are still together
True love isn’t completely dead, you guys.
Paul Pratt and Anna Azonwanna first met after appearing on Cilla Black’s Blind Date back in 1993.
Five years later Paul, now 43, came back on the show and popped the question Anna.
Obviously she said yes, and the couple got married in Barbados in 1999 with Cilla as the guest of honour.
They now have two children, Jessie-Mae, five, and Syrus, eight.
It will be 30 years in November since the hit show, which was axed in 2003 after failing to hit the heights of its 18 millions viewers-a-show heyday, was launched on ITV.
Anna, 42, says that it was Paul’s cheeky answers that won her heart.
When she asked him what animal he would be, Paul said: ‘a tiger because I always catch what I am for’.
Pratt says he wasn’t nervous appearing on the show, putting his confidence down to his youth, but Anna admitted she was ‘nowhere near as cocksure as Paul’, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to pick him at all.
Anna said: ‘Paul had the best lines and the audience received him well but I was torn between two.
‘I remember seeing a lovely blonde woman sat in the front row and she just tilted her head to the left and said “pick number two, you won’t regret it” and that’s exactly what I did.’
Cilla whisked them both off to the Swiss mountains, returning five years where Paul got down on one knee.
In 1999 they jetted off to the Carribean Island with host Cilla on a luxury jet.
Reminiscing about the big day, Paul said: ‘It was a beautiful ceremony with great scenery overlooking Barbados.’
Anna added: ‘Cilla was great, she took a real interest in us and I got on really well with her.’
Only two other couples who met on Blind Date have gone on to get hitched – Sue and Alex Tatham in 1988 and David and Lilian Fensom in February 1994.
