Where Are They Now? Garbage Pail Kids Re-imagined 30 Years On

If you were a child in the late 80′s, then Garbage Pail Kids were undoubtedly your life. Essentially Topps trading cards with weird illustrations of children on them, they were all the rage among the kids of America. Undoubtedly strange, they quickly became a cult item.

For their 30th anniversary, photographer Brandon Voges, art director Jake Houvenagle and retoucher Jordan Guance have resurrected them for a series called “Where Are They Now?”

The new series features the Kids as grownups, pictured to show how they have grown and aged over the years. Sadly not much has changed, “Clogged Duane” is still in a train. When will he learn?

1. Clogged Duane

It seems Duane hasn’t changed much in 30 years, except now he is unclogging drains for a living rather than just for fun. Oh Duane you cheeky chap.

2. Barfin’ Barbara

Someone needs to get Barbara out of the kitchen because however old she, it’s not safe to have her around commercial food preparation. Am I the only one who sees this?

3. Bony Tony

Back in the day Bony Tony just had a weird talent for unzipping his own head, but that’s all changed. 30 years later Tony is a sell out, unzipping his head for punters in a strip club. Come on Tony, you’re better than that.

4. Noah Body

Noah hasn’t let the fact that he’s only a head stop him. While in his youth he may have had to get around on what looks like a crate, nowadays he sits on a plush pillows and sells stocks to emerging Asian markets. I always knew you could do it Noah.

5. Armpit Britt

Sadly for our dear Armpit, she has fallen on tough times since her heyday 30 years ago. Once a child modelling star, people soon got bored of her dreadlocks and now works in a crumby liquor store. How the mighty fall eh?

Voges revealed that he picked the most recognisable characters for the re-make, and also that his team focused on those that had the richest backstory. Also a big part of it was which ones his photographers would enjoy making the most. I think it’s safe to say they’ve done an excellent homage to the original characters. If you like this piece of 80′s nostalgia, then you’ll love these childhood toys that are now worth big money. Do you think the new photos do the old cards justice? Let us know what you think.
