This guy’s homemade hoverboard flight set a Guinness World Record
Now we know it’s not the hover boards promised to us in ‘Back to the Future’ but at least we’re finally getting somewhere with it all. This is Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru who just recently broke the world record for distance traveled on a hover board, but instead of the normal “skateboard” look we’re getting the awesome Green Goblin look from the Spider-Man movies.
In order to beat the world record he only had to travel 50 meters; he traveled 275.9 meters, or 905 feet and 2 inches over a lake, but claims the board can travel over any terrain at crazy heights. He achieved the flight on August 25, 2014 but because of the verification process Guineas just released it to their YouTube page on Friday.
For the test the team decided to run on Lake Ouarea in Quebec to – according to Duru, “showcase that a stable flight can be achieved on a hoverboard and a human could stand and control with their feet.”
While you may not be chasing Spider-Man down anytime soon this is one step in the right direction to a fully controllable, mass produced and flight-sustaining board!
