Google Begins Its Plan To Bring Free Wi-Fi To The Entire World

Google wants to bring free WiFi top the entire world. Google is trialing free WiFi in New York as part of an experiment that the company hopes will eventually span across the globe. A branch of the company called Sidewalk Labs has been set up specifically for the task. To make it happen they will be turning 10,000 of the New York’s old phone booths into ad-supported ‘Wi-Fi pylons’. These booths will also provide phone charging facilities, free domestic phone calls and a touch screen information hub. They are expected to begin appearing this autumn. “The vision really is to make cities connected places where you can walk down any street and have access to free ultra high speed Wi-Fi,” Dan Doctoroff, CEO The most tangible benefit Google are likely to see is the serving of more adverts, which in turn means more money. The more severe cynics among us, and there are a few, are suggesting that they want everyone’s data. They probably already have it anyway. and if the Wi-Fi is free then what the hell. There will also be the option of not using it. It will be interesting to see how far this altruism stretches. Will, for instance, they be as proactive in providing free Wi-Fi to those in developing and third world countries? And most importantly, are they going to let Kim-Jong-Un take credit for this?
