Engineer Took Apart Beats By Dre, You Won’t Believe How Cheap Parts Are
I absolutely love music so I adore a decent pair of headphones as much as the next girl but I’ve never bought in to the whole ‘beats’ culture. My instant and, quite honestly, completely assumed opinion was that they’re standard/slightly above average headphones that were demanding a high cost because they have a celebrity name attached to them. I mean, you put a celebrity name to a t-shirt covered in shit and people will be rolling around in it before the night is through.
Though, I’ve got friends with Beats and they stand strong to the fact that they’re the best headphones they’ve had – but – 126 worth? Probably not.
At the bolt blog, they took apart some Beats by Dr Dre headphones to find out what was really going on in there to warrant such a price
30% of the weight of the headphones comes from this four metal parts, one of the interesting discovery they made in the process of examination – the funny thing is, they don’t actually have any purpose. They’re just there to make your hefty purchase feel a little more substantial. Sneaky bastards
There’s minimal use of screws since almost every part of this product is snapped or glued together. So, no screw costs? Well, every little helps
When they estimated the costs, it came to around 11…though, that doesn’t include labour or shipping but unless they’re flying each individual part over on a separate Boeing 737, I don’t think the eventual retail price is warranted.
The moral of the story? Well, you don’t always get what you pay for – for example, check out how much things costs to make at McDonalds (and this is in dollars) and then consider how much you pay for it.
I’ve always considered Maccy D’s a cheap option so I just wonder the margins on more costly restaurants. I guess we’re in a world where profit is everything but unfortunately, 9 times out of 10, we’re not the ones making the profit. If you want to spend your money on something ridiculously expensive, save towards one of these 10 things instead.
