Best Mates Build Their Own Tiny Town So All Can Grow Old Together
My friends and I used to talk about buying houses next door to each other and making tunnels to connect them, note, this is when we were like 12. Of course, these plans never materialised and this is a pipe dream many of us have. Life, family and loves often get in the way of our childhood plans and in reality, we only see our friends a few times a month, if that.
Well, four couples from Texas decided to give all the hurdles the two-fingers and set about making their dreams come true.
After being best friends for over 20 years, they wanted a better way to live closer to each other and closer to the environment. The answer? “Let’s all get some money together and build our own tiny town.”
They call their settlement ‘Llano Exit Strategy’ and it features for tiny cabins facing the Llano river outside of Austin, Texas
Each of the homes cost only $40,000 and were designed by architecht Matt Garcia, who wanted to make them as sustainable as possible
The cabins are all 400-sq-ft and they contain a queen-size bed, a sofa, bathroom and porch area too
To make the project cheaper, plywood has been used, which also makes the cabins look spacious. Basically, it’s a cheap way to produce a high-design finish
And doesn’t it look good for the money?
Since it’s an arid area, the roofs are designed to collect rain water by using their slant to deposit the water into barrels that can contain up to 5,000 gallons
The corrugated steel exteriors reflect sunlight, keeping the inside of the cabins cool during the summer months
The group of friends spend as much time here as possible and all plan to retire here. Would you live here with a group of your friends? I wonder how long it takes them all to fall out…
