It’s an eerie thought to know that in about 100 years time, Facebook will be filled with dead profiles, as this first generation of social media users passes on. An equally eerie thought is that you’ll never know when a photo will be your last one, unless you take one seconds before suicide anyway. In these 10 cases, these people were just taking a usual selfie and had no idea that disaster and death were about to strike.

1. In December 2012, Mexican pop star, Jenni Rivera, and members of her band and entourage, took this selfie just before taking off on a private jet which sadly crashed soon after take-off, there were no survivors.

2. On April 26th 2014, Courtney Sanford posted this picture of her enjoying the Pharrell Williams smash hit ‘Happy’ while driving through North Carolina. Seconds later she had the back of a truck, in an accident that proved fatal.

3. This selfie was taken by famous Puerto Rican reggae musician, Jadiel. It was uploaded to Instagram moments before he lost his life in a motorcycle crash in New York in May 2014.

4. Gary Slok and his mother took this selfie just before taking off from Amsterdam on Malaysian Airlines fight MH17, which was sadly shot down over Ukraine in July, 2014.

5. Oscar Otero Aguilar, 21, bizarrely lost his life when he tried to take a selfie with a gun for his Facebook page in July 2014. The gun enthusiast accidentally shot himself in the head and didn’t survive.

6. Karen Hernandez, 13, wanted to take a selfie of the banks of the El Tunal river in Mexico. Unfortunately, she fell into the river and drowned. Firefighters later recovered her body.

7. In March 2014, a 21-year old man died in Jan, Spain by electrocution when he foolishly climbed on top of moving train to take a selfie.

8. These two women took a selfie while singing in their car, the iranian girls stopped watching the road and crashed into a car. This selfie craze can be selfish – just don’t do it while driving.

9. A polish couple on holiday in Portugal attempted a risky selfie on the edge of a cliff on August 10th, 2014. They both fell to their death.

10. Xenia Ignatyeva took a selfie from a bridge 28 feet off the ground to impress her friends. The 17-year old Russian girl lost her balance and fell on a cable, which tragically electrocuted her.
