Police Tragically Ignore 9 Year Old’s 911 Call
Child abuse is a horrific act upon children that should not be tolerated and should always be guarded against. That’s what makes this story so difficult to stomach. The things that should have been in place to protect this child totally failed.
After being horrifically abused both physically and verbally, Omaree called 911 and left the phone line open so the operator could hear his mother, Synthia Varela-Casaus and his stepfather Steve Casaus, dish out the abuse against Omaree.
While he had called twice total, police only showed up on one of the occasions, and when they did they put Omaree right in front of his alleged abusers while interviewing him, then saying they would file a report with Children, Youth and Families Department, which in turn, they never did. Six months later Omaree was dead.
Blunt force trauma was to blame, making Omaree’s death a murder. Bruises, bite marks and burns were also found on his body from previous abuses inflicted upon him. The mother admitted to pushing him into a dresser, stomping him on the ground, and kicking him in the abdomen.
The negligent cops who initially interviewed and “investigated” Omaree’s abuse, are now being investigated themselves for protocol violations. Looking back it has been discovered that there have actually been 9 other reports made to the agency since Omaree was only a baby. Two out of the nine actually confirmed that abuse was present.
Despite the findings, no action had been taken.
It would be enough if the focus here was solely on the unspeakable violent acts of two disgusting parents, eventually leading to the murder of a child. But the other glaring disgusting individuals involved in this case are the ones in the system who allowed this to carry on to the point of a little boy being murdered. This serves as a reminder that the system is broken and we can’t rely on it. If you see injustice taking place in regards to abused children, not only inform authorities but follow through to make sure they do their job.
