Last Male Northern White Rhino In The World Is Kept Under 24hr Guard
If you were the last man of your kind on the earth, you’d probably feel all sorts of enormous pressure to ensure the future of your race. Well, thanks to cowardly poachers that’s similar to the pressure felt by Sudan, the last remaining male northern white rhino left on the planet.
At first glance, Sudan looks like any other northern white rhino: stout and agile with square lips. Though, his life is far from normal. In his home in Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, Sudan is kept under 24hour armed guard protection – a protection usually reserved for royalty.
This tweet shows an example of how seriously the guards take the protection of Sudan, the sole survivor.
The guard boasts 40 armed rangers that patrol the 90,000-acre conservancy, which is otherwise one of the largest black rhino sanctuaries in East Africa.
The fact that it’s got to this stage is actually devastatingly sad. There was recently a debate as to whether facebook should ban this teenager who hunts endangers animals – if this isn’t a reason to vote yes, I don’t know what is.
